Nihat Özdal has been working in the fields of art, literature, performance, museology, and research on scent since 2018. He approaches olfactory practice not merely as a sensory experience, but as an artistic discipline intertwined with language, memory, geography, literature, archaeology, and cultural heritage.

He has realized olfactory works in Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore, Havana, Skopje, and various cities in Turkey, developing solo exhibitions, performances, and scent-focused museum projects.

The Scent Festival, founded by Özdal in Halfeti in 2018, transformed into an international contemporary olfactory art platform under the name Halfeti Olfactory Art Festival starting in 2026.

His collection of approximately 200 archaeological perfume, oil, and cosmetic vessels constitutes a significant component of his research on historical scents, raw materials, and olfactory culture.
